Switchgear Search & Recruiting and capSpire, Inc., both of Tulsa and Phase 2 of Oklahoma City have been honored with a 2017 When Work Works Award for exemplary workplace practices.
The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) today announced the winners of the 2017 When Work Works Award. The winners provide insight into the practices of effective workplaces and emerging trends.
Among the almost 300 award winners are 100-percent-virtual workplaces, worksites that have holistic and family-first approaches to work, employers that trust employees to manage when and how they do their work, organizations with top leaders who set positive examples, and supervisors that support job success.
The prestigious When Work Works Award — part of the SHRM’s When Work Works project — recognizes employers at worksites that are excelling at offering a variety of top-rated employee initiatives such as work-life fit policies, flexible scheduling and transition to parenthood programs.
The award goes beyond work-life programs and includes initiatives that address additional evidence-based aspects of effective workplaces: autonomy; supervisor support for job success; co-worker support for job success; satisfaction with earnings, benefits and opportunities to advance; opportunities for learning; and a culture of trust, respect and belonging.
The 298 winning worksites represent all sizes of organizations in 44 states and the District of Columbia. The winners will be recognized at community events in the coming months.
“Business leaders continue to seek ways to create effective work environments that are conducive to increased productivity, innovation, creativity and engagement. The 2017 winners give strong evidence that effective and flexible workplaces are key to successful business strategies,” said Ellen Galinsky, president of the Families and Work Institute, the originator of the award, and senior research advisor at SHRM.
The award is earned after a rigorous assessment that emphasizes the real-life experiences of employees and incorporates national benchmarks of employer practices from the National Study of Employers and the National Study of the Changing Workforce. Two-thirds of an organization’s winning score is based on a survey of its employees.
“These winners are changing the norms of work and the workplace by restructuring how, when and where work gets done in ways that work for employees while also achieving and improving organizational success,” said Cassidy Solis, senior advisor for workplace flexibility at SHRM.
