The HR Generalist – Benefits & Analytics, in collaboration with the Director of Human Resources and Employee Experience, and the HR Generalist – People and Culture, executes the daily functions of the HR department. This role takes lead on benefits administration, HRIS, time and attendance, leave administration, uniform management, and compliance reporting, while providing back-up support to the HR Generalist – People and Culture on recruitment, hiring, onboarding, employee engagement, employee relations, and talent management.

Detailed Description:

  • Perform benefits administration duties and work directly with TZMIs benefits broker to ensure claims are handled efficiently and enrollments/terminations are completed in a timely manner.
  • Conduct annual evaluation/benchmarking of benefits plans and lead coordination of annual open enrollment meetings and communications.
  • Work with HRIS vendor to troubleshoot and identify solutions for reporting and methods for optimizing HRIS capabilities.
  • Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations, including providing accurate reports for annual EEO-1, Form 5500, and other compliance reports.
  • Process employee life-cycle activities in a timely manner and ensure data accuracy, upkeep, and organization of employee files.
  • Execute all employee absence administration needs such as Paid Time Off, Sick Time Off, FML, STD, LTD, etc.
  • Manage the return-to-work process for employees who have been on leave due to non-work related injuries and illnesses.
  • Manage the zoo uniform system. Actively identify uniform needs zoo-wide, build and manage the annual uniform budget, order and track all uniform needs, support staff uniform ordering, and manage the uniform vendor relationship.
  • Make recommendations to management about organizational culture needs, process and policy alterations, benefits, compensation, employment trends, and other areas for continuous improvement.
  • Respond to verifications of employment.
  • Maintain current organizational charts and contact lists.
  • Administer general human resources procedures and enforce TZMI policies.
  • In their absence, act as backup to HR Generalist People and Culture.
  • Assist in the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding process of TZMI staff members, including but not limited to arranging pre-placement drug and TB screenings, conducting reference checks, making job offers, completion of new-hire paperwork, and issuing uniforms and name tags.
  • Assist with stay and exit interviews.
  • Handle confidential and non-routine information and maintain high standards of confidentiality of all employee records and information.
  • Use independent judgment to plan, prioritize, and organize diversified workload.
  • Respond to radio calls. Maintain knowledge and appropriate training in emergency response and follow policy and procedure in the case of a radio alert or emergency.
  • Assist with employee relations concerns, including conducting investigations and interviews in matters of potential harassment or discrimination.
  • Interact with and supply information to job applicants, employees, department heads, and public and private agencies.
  • May represent TZMI in unemployment claims hearings.
  • Effectively communicate and demonstrate interpersonal skills with all levels of employees in a clear and professional manner.
  • Demonstrate and adhere to TZMIs workplace values.
  • Know and follow zoo policies and procedures.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings and assigned training sessions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older, possess a valid driver’s license, and be insurable on TZMI’s insurance carrier
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited college or university plus a minimum of two years of experience in a human resources position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Knowledge of state and federal employment law including but not limited to: FMLA, ADA, FLSA, Title VII of the Civil Rights act, NLRA, and Workers Compensation
  • Experience conducting workplace investigations
  • Experience recruiting and interviewing job candidates
  • PHR or SPHR certification preferred
  • Experience administering employee benefits and working with benefits brokers
  • Experience writing and/or interpreting workplace policies for employees and leaders
  • Experience with post-injury/illness return-to-work procedures
  • Must be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of TZMI employees, managers, clients, customers, and the general public
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, proportions, percentages, algebra, fractions, ratios, and decimals and apply them to practical situations
  • Microsoft Word; Microsoft Excel; Microsoft PowerPoint or Prezi; Web-Based HR Information Systems; Internet Browser(s) - Explorer, Chrome, Safari, etc.

Additional Information:

Your Manager: Director of Human Resources and Employee Experience;
Your Pay Structure (FLSA Status): Full-time, salary/exempt;
Safety Sensitive: This is a safety-sensitive position. Regardless of whether you are a medical marijuana licensee, you must receive a negative result on a 10-panel, pre-placement drug screening to include THC, prior to beginning work.
