This month we will take a closer look at 3 impactful topics that Retirement Plan Sponsors have on their radar. Improving retirement outcomes through behavioral finance, avoiding fiduciary failures and understanding the key provisions of the Setting Every Community Up for Retirement Enhancement (SECURE Act). We will also be sharing information on the newly passed CARES Act.
The ultimate goal of a retirement plan is to provide employees with the opportunity for a dignified retirement. Highly successful retirement plans implement strategies to drive this success. We’ll examine the strategies these plan sponsors take to overcome inertia in retirement saving.
Objectives
Most 401(k) plan lawsuits challenge either the investment options offered under the plan or the administrative and investment management expenses that are paid by plan participants. Plan sponsors and fiduciaries should have a robust process in place to review and monitor both the available investment options and plan fees and expenses.

The act includes many common-sense, long-overdue reforms that could make saving for retirement easier and more accessible for many Americans. We’ll discuss some of the key provisions.
Mark Forbes, C(k)P, Managing Director, Strategic Retirement Partners. As the Managing Director for SRP in Oklahoma, Mark has extensive experience in delivering process-driven solutions to help protect employers from corporate and personal financial liability, while striving to provide plan participants a path to a successful retirement. For over 28 years Mark has worked with retirement plan sponsors and plan participants with a passion to provide fiduciary oversight and sound investment guidance to position participants for long-term retirement success.
Mark’s career started with Principal Financial Group in Des Moines with stops in Chicago, Atlanta and Tulsa. After 13 years with Principal, he accepted a Retirement Consultant position with a regional advisory firm and then in 2004, Mark founded Forbes Financial Group. In 2016, he entered into a partnership with SRP. Mark earned his BSBA from Drake University, Des Moines, IA. He holds the Series 7 (General Securities Representative), Series 63 (Uniform Securities Agent State Law Examination) and Series 66 (Uniform Combined State Law Examination).
Mark holds the C(k)P designation, Certified 401(k) Professional, from The Retirement Advisor University at UCLA Anderson School of Management Executive Education, in Los Angeles. Mark was named by The Financial Times as one of the Top 401 Retirement Advisors in 2018 & 2019.
Mark’s wife works as a Group Benefits Consultant and they have 2 children. He is actively involved in coaching youth sports teams. When he finds free time he enjoys playing golf, biking, spending time with his family and following his favorite sports teams. Mark served on the on the Board of Directors at the Oklahoma Aquarium for 5 years.
Eric Magyar is a Retirement Director, Central division, for the Defined Contribution and Wealth Advisor Services Team at Janus Henderson Investors. In this role, Mr. Magyar supports the firm’s Advisor Solutions Group directors and partners with defined contribution and variable annuity wholesalers in the central territory. Prior to joining Janus in 2015, he was a variable annuity regional sales representative with DWS Investments from 1997.
Mr. Magyar received his BA degree from the University of Illinois and his MBA from Dominican University. He holds FINRA Series 7, 6 and 63 securities licenses and is an Accredited Investment Fiduciary (AIF®). He has 22 years of financial industry experience.
