October Learning Lab

The Importance of Allyship in Your Organization's Resource Groups

Categories: TAHRA Webinar Meeting

On Wednesday, October 21 from 1 to 2p CT, TAHRA will host Inclusion Strategist and author Amber Cabral for a presentation on Allyship. Her session will be based on her new book, Allies and Advocates: Creating an Inclusive and Equitable Culture.

On Thursday, October 29 from 1 to 3p CT, TAHRA will host a virtual Learning Lab that will follow the same theme of Allyship. One way that employers engage and create a sense of community for its employees is by offering Employee/Business Resource Groups (E/BRGs). With 90 percent of Fortune 500 companies utilizing them, E/BRGs are voluntary, employee-led collectives designed to foster an inclusive workplace and focus on welcoming minority groups like veterans, women, and racially and ethnically diverse people. E/BRGs can make employees feel heard by creating an open channel of communication to leadership. When this link is strong, employees in E/BRGs are likely to feel that they are working together with every level of the company to help ensure a better work environment.

At this lab, we will host panelists from companies who currently have E/BRGs and each will share information about the formation and involvement of E/BRGs. A panel discussion will follow, focusing on growing existing E/BRGs from advocates who support, to allies who stand up and take action.

You will learn:

  • The value and importance of E/BRGs as it pertains to HR and the employee lifecycle.
  • How important allies are to the E/BRGs.
  • How leadership and employees dedicated to E/BRGs can create a functioning organization that values an inclusive and equitable workplace.
